ADVANCED Motorcycle LESSONS / Motorbike SAFETY COURSES

If you are a first time, or even an experienced rider who has not taken a motorcycling safety course, put it on your “to do” list. Not only will it sharpen your street survival skills, but it will also bring you a discount on your insurance premium.

TRACK DAYS
Given the existence of today’s high-tech equipment used to monitor traffic and catch offenders, such as Gatso, Muniquip, helicopter-mounted video cameras and Vascar - you’d have to be a bit of a mug and a danger to yourself and others to risk speeding on out increasingly congested roads.

But there is somewhere drivers can drive fast and in safety; Britain’s race circuits. There are more of them than you might think, and while we can’t all be professionals like Carl Foggerty, most offer specific track days where amateurs and enthusiasts can take their bikes along and try their hand at improving their driving skills in a fast but controlled environment.

Of course, a lot what you learn on the race track is not suitable for the road, but skills like reading the road, observing other drivers, and braking and gearchange skills can stand you in good stead.

WEEKEND RIDING
One of the many activities that you can do when you have passed your test is go riding on a weekend. Weekends are popular because for most people it is the time they are free from work; sundays are specifically popular riding days. Some ideas are getting together with friends, going out with your partner or even forming or joining a bikers club. You could go on a tour of the coast, or retreat to the back roads and beauties of the countryside, or even just go out for the thrill of the ride. Whatever you do make sure you have fun, be well prepared and always ride safely. Good look!
