THEORY TEST
Since 14 November 2002 you will be asked
to answer 35 multiple-choice questions, followed by a test of your
hazard perception skills. You will need to pass both parts of the theory
test at the same sitting to obtain your theory test pass certificate.
From January 2000, theory tests have been delivered using a touch screen
computer. Candidates sit at individual booths. Questions appear on a computer
screen and candidates select their answers simply by touching the screen.
- You will need to pass a Theory Test before taking a practical test for
a moped or motorcycle.
- You do not need to take a Theory Test if you have passed a moped test
since 1 July 1996.
- Candidates have 40 minutes to answer 35 test questions. However, people
with special needs can apply for additional time, (up to 80 minutes) when
they are booking their test.
- Candidates have to answer 30 questions correctly out of 35 to pass the
multiple-choice part of the test.
- Candidates have to achieve a pass mark of 44 out of 70 for the Hazard
Perception part of the test.
- The Theory Test Pass Certificate is valid for 2 years. The practical
test must be passed within this period otherwise the Theory Test will
have to be taken again.
