Even if you have never been on a bike before, our instructors will put you at your ease, and have you riding before you know it!
Before we start you need to show us both parts of your driving licence to prove your provisional entitlement (we promise not to laugh at the photocard!?!), then we begin with an eye sight test.
You must be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 metres before you can carry on and complete your CBT (for those of us over 21 that's just over 67 feet!). The 5 elements set out by the DSA are covered as follows:
Before we start any bike work we will take you through the safety factors of driving and introduce you to the appropriate clothing needed for safe riding. We will look at a range of products such as helmets, boots, trousers, gloves and waterproofs, and identify safe and not so safe styles
B. Practical On-Site TrainingFirstly we introduce you to the controls, stand, mirrors and then the necessary basic driving checks such as checking your mirrors, checking your blind spot and applying your lifesaver check.
The first controlling skills you will learn on the bike are stopping & starting, and throttle control. You will drive in straight lines at first so you get a feel for the bike. After you get used to this and master the technique we move on to more advanced skills which are gear changing and slightly more advanced steering.
After this we move on to slow control and manoeuvring which can sometimes be difficult to pick up but with our expert tuition we are confident we can get your skills mastered.
After manoeuvres and gear changing we move onto learning the most difficult of tasks which are emergency stops and the all important left and right turns. These tasks apply the previously learned tasks all rolled into one, combining gear changing, throttle control and manoeuvring the bike.
After all the practice and learning we have a pre-road-ride talk just to make sure we are all fully aware of the highway code and what to expect on the road.
Then we are off!
We finish off the day on the road applying all the skills you learned.
This is where the real fun starts!
We do the majority of the road skills on quiet roads so you can build up your confidence and road awareness skills.
After a day of expert training you will be skilled, confident and eager to get onto the road or into higher learning.
